Lockport, IL Painting & Remodeling Contractor

The I&M Canal runs right through Lockport, and the oldest part of town grew up along it: State Street storefronts, limestone and frame houses on the blocks behind them, and the bluff dropping east toward the Des Plaines. Newer Lockport spreads south and east, where the subdivisions are mostly thirty years old or less. We come down Route 53 from Bolingbrook, which makes this one of the closer towns in our service area.

Old houses here need patience more than speed. Wood siding and porch trim that has been painted many times over wants scraping, spot priming and fresh caulk before any color goes on, or the new coat lifts with the old. Inside, plaster walls, deep baseboards and painted-shut windows are the usual story. We also handle kitchens, baths, flooring and drywall finishing, and every estimate is free.

Lockport homes

What the work usually involves in Lockport

Local housing stock decides what a project really needs. Here is what we plan for in this area.
  • Canal-era woodwork

Nineteenth-century frame houses near downtown carry a lot of exterior wood: clapboard, porch columns, brackets and deep window casings. The paint only lasts if the bare spots are primed and the open joints are sealed first. Where a board is too far gone, replacing the piece beats burying it under another coat.

  • Downtown storefronts

The historic business blocks along State Street mix retail at street level with offices above. Painting a space like that means working around business hours, protecting glass and transoms, and keeping the sidewalk clear. Our Monday through Saturday schedule is flexible enough to put most of it after close.

  • Newer side, older paint

South and east of the canal, the 1990s and 2000s subdivisions are on their second round of exterior work. Hardboard and vinyl trim, shutters and garage doors go first. Replacement windows and doors are a common add-on once a homeowner is already pricing the outside of the house.

FAQ

Lockport questions

More answers on the FAQ page.

More preparation than painting. We wash the siding, scrape back anything loose, prime bare wood, re-caulk the joints and deal with failed glazing or rotten trim before the first finish coat. Skipping that is why a repaint can start peeling in two seasons. After prep, it is two coats on body and trim.
